Biography
Félix Rubio Sanz is a Spanish visual artist based in Seville whose work brings together painting, philosophy and an intense investigation of colour. A graduate in Philosophy with additional studies in Art History and Aesthetics, he spent nearly three decades in education before dedicating himself fully to his artistic practice.
His paintings move between expressive figuration and abstraction. Human figures, urban crowds, interiors and atmospheric landscapes are transformed into spaces of psychological and philosophical inquiry. Rather than reproducing visible reality, Rubio uses painting to question how reality is perceived, remembered and emotionally experienced.
Solitude, identity, memory, time, collective behaviour and the growing presence of technology are recurring themes throughout his work. His figures often appear introspective, fragmented or displaced, while architecture and landscape become extensions of their inner states.
Rubio works primarily with oil and mixed media. His technique combines transparent glazes, impasto, acrylic paint, pumice stone, collage and areas of deliberately exposed material. This process produces surfaces in which physical texture, chromatic tension and conceptual meaning are inseparable.
In 2026, his painting “Broken Communication” was exhibited at the 6th Biennale della Creatività W.A.B. — Men for Women in Bra, Italy. The work received a Menzione di Merito from the critical jury and achieved fourth place in the public vote.
During the same year, Rubio created the official poster image for the 2026 Pop Eye Awards, which were broadcast by RTVE, Spain’s national public broadcaster. He also presented “EXPOPARTY”, a solo exhibition at the Manolo Alés Gallery and Casa de la Cultura in La Línea de la Concepción.
His recent international activity includes participation in the EvolucionArts “Art Without Borders” metaverse exhibition and an invitation to take part in RORÀRTE 2026 in Costigliole d’Asti, Italy. His work has also received visibility through selections such as Artfinder Staff Picks and Singulart’s curated presentation of European artists to follow.
Félix Rubio’s current practice represents a mature and highly personal stage in his career: a continuous dialogue between matter and thought, beauty and unease, the recognisable world and the uncertainty that lies beneath it.
