Finalist — XXV Premio Fabrizio De André 2026, Painting Section. One of 15 finalist works selected for the award in Italy.

The Victory of Soroella (2026) is a contemporary figurative painting in acrylic, oil, collage and pigments on canvas.

A woman sits by the sea reading a fictional newspaper proclaiming ‘The Victory of Soroella’. The title deliberately bends the name and luminous Mediterranean legacy of Joaquín Sorolla, using that tradition as a distant reference while shifting the scene into a more unstable and contemporary territory.

Bright blues, reds, pinks and ochres create an apparent atmosphere of summer celebration, but fragmented anatomy, hidden texts, symbols and small visual interruptions gradually introduce unease and ambiguity. Irony is central to the work: what first appears festive and serene becomes a reflection on collective optimism, propaganda, memory, social tension and the way personal interpretation shapes what we accept as reality.
